About Hi I Made This

In the spring of 2019 I started an Instagram account to share pictures of food I was making with the world. Or whoever wanted to look at crummy phone pics of amateur cooking.

Until a few years ago I didn’t cook much of anything that didn’t involve opening a few cans or setting a crockpot on low. I frankly had minimal skills in the kitchen and was uninterested in developing beyond my “good enough” efforts. Every now and then I’d scour Pinterest or popular food blogs and get inspired to make something new but yeah, bagged salads, baked chicken, and slow cooker chicken parm (highly recommend btw) got me through most of my adult years just fine.

I don’t really know what made me decide to give like 5% more effort to my meals but GOOD JOB, ME! because now cooking is my favorite hobby.

But as much as I love finding delicious things to cook, that’s not what this blog is about. This blog is about two things:

Thing one is the weird, overly involved, science-ish baking projects I’ve started to dream up—most notably my Levain Bakery copycat recipe showdown where I did a bake-off between 7 uber popular recipes that claimed to provided a copycat Levain Bakery chocolate chip cookie. There were spreadsheets, sticky notes and a bunch of deli containers—it was chaos in the best way.

The other thing my writing focuses is on is all thoughts food-adjacent. I’ve discussed what led me to create my instagram account back in 2019 which, spoiler alert, had a lot to do with my mental health at the time. The way we experience food (both alone and together), create our meals, and attach memories to recipes runs every inch of the emotional spectrum and talking about the messy bits in addition to the warm and fuzzy bits is something I hope to do.

There’s more weird and agonizingly wordy baking projects and thoughts about food in the pipeline so stay tuned for that. If you need to get in touch with me in the meantime, feel free to reach out!
